One of my good buddies Harvin Sethi had his video featured as the Myspace video of the day for ‘Crank Dat Curry Sauce’. Within 12 hours the video blew up and was filled with tons of comments—some funny, some weird, some racist—and we decided to make a little performance out of it. Harvin stopped by at the Gridiron Gang show this past month and did some standup and sketch stuff. I read off the actual user comments, and Harvin responded through a guitar performance. Check the video.
Probably one of the most popular viral videos on the internet right now is ‘Crank Dat’ by Soulja Boy. It’s also the most parodied video on the web. I’m just waiting for the ‘Crank dat paraplegic colorblind in his left eye boy’ parody video because lets be honest we can’t rest until every political, ethnic, and racial group has their respective parody. Can someone please get on this?
Just when you thought Soulja Boy couldn’t spit anymore fire on the mic he comes out with his new hit single ‘Yahh’! I’m like holy crap Soulja Boy, slow down the game can’t handle this much heat. The video starts off with Soulja Boy playing videogames with his hype man A-Rab. Suddenly he gets a call from his manager sitting in an Escalade outside his house who tells him to ‘Get to school!‘ because its really important that he gets a quality education. Then, Soulja Boy and A-Rab laugh and keep playing the video game where the ‘Soulja Boy’ character is fighting a short goon named ‘Hater’ (I’m not sure what the allusion here is, but hey after a few more listens I’ll probably be able to make it through his deep rhyme scheme and word play). His manager yells to him on the phone “Soulja boy go to school” and Soulja Boy picks up and yells “Yahh!“ like a drunk retard and hangs up.
Then things start getting really crazy in Soulja Boy world! His Caucasian nerdy teacher rings the doorbell and demands that Soulja Boy comes to school. He’s so nerdy with his pocket protector and big glasses. As soon as he rings the bell the ‘Hater’ character pops out of the tv screen and jumps into Soulja’ pants for some pocket pool.
Then the beat drops. Like a Master P beat a-la 1998 I’m bumpin my head immediately. Soulja Boy tells them how it is:
[Speaking]
We got somthin new for y’all
When a motherfucka be in your face
Just on your nerves, talkin shit
And you just don’t wanna hear it
Just be like “Yahhh, Bitch, Yahhh!“
[Chorus]
(Hey, SoulJa Boy, can I get your autograph?) Yahhh, Bitch, Yahhh!
(Yo, A-Rab, I really like you, man) Yahhh, Bitch, Yahhh!
(Are there any 30 boyz that—-) Yah, Yah, Bitch, Yah Yahhh!
(Yeah, I was wonderin, can I be on your next—-) Yahhh, Yahhh, Bitch!
[Hook]
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face, ho!
Get out my face (Yahhh!)
59 seconds into this track I hop onto Itunes and buy the single immediately. I want to make sure Soulja Boy and Collipark entertainment has my support to continue making music like this.
Then I go back to watching the video. For the next three minutes Soulja Boy and A-Rab are walking to school rapping and their loyal fan base keeps interrupting them. A short Korean woman asks for an autograph, a girl from Hannah Montana wants to be A-rabs girlfriend, and a motorcycle guy with a Mullet stops and asks for a picture. Soulja Boy and A-rab provide the obvious response: ‘Yahhh Trick, Yahhhhh!‘
3 minutes in the plot thickens. They get to school and Soulja Boy gets his report card back and he gets all F’s. What?!? This is unacceptable and Soulja Boy knows it:
“Man I got my report card and I got all F’s on it. I took it back to the teacher and said “Throw some D’s on it!“”
Talk about metaphors and allusions. Soulja Boy takes his report card back to his teacher and he LITERALLY throws ‘D’‘s on it. The class goes craaaaazy and starts dancing around because Soulja Boy got D’s! 3 minutes and 47 seconds of straight awesomeness.

Yahh Trick Yahh!
