+ Watch movies. Have fun. \\ 09.26.08

If you’re in the Los Angeles area Patton Oswalt will be curating his first ever festival at The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles Friday, October 3rd through Thursday, October 16th. Be there. Oh, and props to Patton for always putting together sweet promo posters.

Check out http://www.newbevcinema.com for showtimes, and http://www.pattonoswalt.com for the best of Patton.

+ Hin Do: Watch Manoj \\ 09.25.08

Good friend and fellow comic Hari Kondabolu has recently released his short film ‘Manoj’ on Youtube. I wanted to check it out when it was at the SF International Asian American Film Festival but it sold out! Now you don’t have to deal with the heartbreak I had to go through now that the short is online. It was also a selection at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal this year; so its definitely getting the attention it deserves. Watch for yourself and spread the word!

+ Can’t wait ‘til September 27th \\ 09.25.08

If you’re a comic, aspiring comic, or just fan of comedy watching a Chris Rock HBO Special is a must. Whether you’re into mainstream comedy or into the whole hipster alternativo comedy movement; Rock is the the best—plain and simple. He transcends all lines that have been set up in comedy.

Watching him makes me realize why I even try to do comedy; his ability to make anything funny is amazing. He recently made his return on Letterman and you can see why seeing every interview with Chris Rock at this stage of his career is such a treat. He’s a showman even on the guest couch; what’s great is that he even describes the process in an interview he had with Charlie Rose a few years ago. He basically looked at the guest couch as an extension of the stage. As comics we try to make each show unforgettable and Chris Rock does the same with his late night interviews. You have to love how he immediately takes over and even makes Dave uncomfortable.

September 27th. ‘Kill the Messenger’ on HBO. Watch it.

+ Happy Birthday Hasan \\ 09.25.08

Thank you friends…

+ Birthday Wishes \\ 09.23.08

Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday. Thanks to everyone who came out to a sold out show at the SF Punchline. The audience was amazing; not to mention the comics made the night all that more special. You couldn’t have asked for a better crowd or better group of comics. Of course we had the regular SF Phenoms, but the additions of Stefan Pop from Holland and Rory Scovel from New York took the show to another level.

If I asked you to take a picture so we can ‘Remember this night forever’ please send it my way: hasan AT hasanminhaj DOT com. I’ll save it as my desktop background.

Come out again; the shows only keep getting better and better. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the whole sketch/video situation don’t worry, we had some minor technical difficulties. No need to fret, I’ll be posting those videos to the web soon. Keep your eyes peeled for my new video blog that I’ll be attaching to this site devoted solely to my sketches and videos.

+ Good times at LapPop! \\ 09.23.08

As part of the APAture (one of my favorite festivals in the bay area) I got to perform at ‘LapPOP!‘—an afternoon showcase of performance, readings, film and whatnot from notable APA bloggers and artists. The show was awesome; got to see some good friends read blog entries, perform sketch, and show off their work. Here’s a picture from our EmotionEric ‘Emotion Off’ between myself and Ernie. Basically EmotionEric gave us an emotion from his web page to reproduce and show off to the crowd and they had to vote who they thought expressed the emotion best. It came down to three Emotion Offs between myself and Ernie. In all fairness Ernie brought the goods (even though I think he did cheat a little on the last emotion) I think the emotion I was given was ‘Inquisitive’, while Ernie thought he could still win the crowd over by sticking to the second emotion ‘Suave’. I’ll let you guys decide:

I know. I’d vote for Ernie too.

+ Upcoming shows \\ 09.07.08

I’m pretty excited about some upcoming shows. Hopefully I’ll see you there:

September 10th:

I’ll be @ the Hollywood Improv. A lot of LA people have been asking when I’m doing a show in their area. Here’s your chance. Get your tickets here.

September 21st:

I’ll be performing at LapPOP! A blog showcase as part of APATURE! Every year I have a great time at the APATURE showcases so this will be a really fun show. Check out the description: ‘An intersection between geekery, personal expression, and pop culture.‘

September 22nd:

San Francisco Phenoms at the SF Punchline. This show is going to be awesome. This is probably going to be one of the best shows I’ve put together at the Punchline. You can get tickets here.
