Comic Con 2009. The annual convention which ended Sunday in San Diego, drew 125,000 fans, who traveled many miles and waited in line for hours just for glimpses of favorite stars and sneak peeks at movies, TV series and, of course, comics—obviously I had to be there to catch all the action and fandemonium.
Sure, there were panel discussions with Tim Burton debuting ‘Alice in Wonderland’, Robert Downey Jr. talking about ‘Iron Man 2’, and of course the entire ‘Twilight’ crew…unfortunately that PALED in comparison to the freak show that paid and showed up to the convention. That my friends, is where all the action was:
This guy decided to dress up as Blanka from the Street Fighter video game series. Instead of actually being a green monster from Brazil, he openly admitted to being a single Philipino guy from Oceanside, California.
One of my all time favorite movies from the ‘Batman’ series was the under appreciated was the ‘Batman and Robin’. Why? Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze and would use terrible one liners throughout the entire movie. This guy made the character choice to not break this trend and kept using adjectives and similes to describe his ice cold personality. It was awesome:
Me: Hey can I take a picture with you?
Mr. Freeze: Cool it.
My friend: (Laughing)
Mr. Freeze: Tell him to chill out.
Classic.
Even Green Lantern has to catch his flight. Breaking character at Comic Con—Tisk Tisk.
I asked this guy what he was dressed up as and found out it wasn’t a costume. He just wanted to be the ‘community billboard’. Awkward.
Black Captain America. No joke here. I just respect that he decided to break down ethnic barriers when it comes to superhero typecasting. We shared a red velvet cupcake after the pic.
